Making Money Work

A new industry survey has revealed that HMRC faced 122 judicial reviews in 2017, a 30% rise since the previous year. According to London legal firm, RPC, the rise is down to the most aggressive stance that the taxman has taken with taxpayers – with many people across the UK feeling like they have been treated unfairly.

The survey has stated that HMRC is facing legal battles from taxpayers around the country, with one case against the taxman included it serving information request notices on taxpayers that were not in its jurisdiction, with another claiming that HMRC wasn’t following its own rules on minimum wage payments. What’s more worrying is that the Telegraph Money also accused HMRC as hounding taxpayers with mental health issues, even after the taxman was made aware of the taxpayer’s ill health.

Things aren’t looking great for HMRC following the latest insight into their struggling battles with taxpayers, and we here at Lima Accountancy understand that there may be more people in the Leeds area that are considering taking the same steps as the 122 taxpayers.
