HMRC announced earlier this month that 745,500 people missed the deadline at the end of January and now face the risk of a £100 fine. They also said that 10.7 million taxpayers had in fact managed to submit their taxes on time, with over 30,000 doing so within the last hour.

Of the 11.4 million returns due, the figures show that there were still 745,500 outstanding as of the 1st February. Despite this meaning that around 7% of the total was missing, the numbers are actually down from last year. In 2017, the number of people that missed the deadline was considerably more, totalling 840,000 missed or late payments.
